How to Build a Pull Up Bar: Cut Boards
Cut two identical pieces of the 2×4 to the height at which you’d like the bar to hang. This example is cut to 18 inches, but it will vary depending on ceiling height and personal preference. Measure 3 inches from the bottom of the boards and use the 1-1/2-inch spade bit to make a hole in both boards. Sand the rough edges.

Mount
Mount the boards hole-side down on the inside of two ceiling joists using three staggered wood screws. Measure space from ceiling and side to side to be sure the bar will be square and level.
