Toyota Recalls Over 42,000 Cars Over Brake Issue That Could Cause Crashes

Attention, Toyota drivers! If you own a Corolla Cross Hybrid, you may be at increased risk of a collision due to a brake-related issue impacting your car. Toyota just announced a recall, and it’s crucial for owners to act quickly to ensure their safety on the road. Want to know if your vehicle is affected and what steps you need to take? Here’s everything you need to know to stay safe and avoid an accident.
Which Toyota Vehicles Are Being Recalled?
According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recent recall affects over 42,000 2023-2024 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid vehicles produced between June 2022 and September 2024.
Toyota will send out owner notification letters starting Nov. 5, with all owners notified by late November.
Why Are These Toyota Vehicles Being Recalled?
The issue with these vehicles stems from a software error in the skid control electronic control unit, which controls the brake system. This bug could cause the power brake assist to stop working when turning a corner, which could significantly increase the stopping distance and, in turn, the chances of a crash.
What to Do If My Vehicle Has Been Recalled?
Toyota will update the software issue impacting these vehicles free of charge. If your vehicle is affected, you can schedule the repair with your local Toyota dealership. Call Toyota directly at 1-800-331-4331 with any questions about the recall. (The reference number for this recall 24TA11.)
