Protect Faux Flowers Outside

I love faux flowers. They don’t need watering, look good in all weather and can be re-used season after season. However, faux flowers aren’t completely maintenance-free when kept outside. Exposed to the sun and rain, faux flowers will break down over time. A popular Flex Seal hack uses Flex Spray to add a protective, waterproof layer to outdoor faux flowers. In this video by @kellybazzle, she suggests first applying an ultraviolet light protective spray, then clear Flex Seal Spray.

Protect Outside Animatronics

Whether spooky, sweet or funny, animatronics can add a lot to your seasonal outdoor display. When my kids were young, we acquired quite a few animatronics for outside decorating, but they only seemed to last a year or two before they stopped working. Consider using Flex Seal to extend their lifespan, as shown in this TikTok video by @justjennie87. The video suggests spraying animatronics with clear Flex Seal Spray to add a waterproof layer and protect electrical workings inside holiday animatronics.

Fix a Leaky Boat

Flex Seal’s rubberized, waterproof qualities work great at repairing boats too. I have used Flex Seal Tape, Liquid and Spray products to repair my leaky 70-year-old aluminum canoe. I started with several layers of Flex Liquid, making sure to allow for enough drying time between layers. Then, I finished it up with two layers of Flex Spray to seal any remaining holes and gaps. Flex Tape worked great in repairing a crack in the hull.

Fix a Leaking Refrigerator Water Line

While using a hard line to supply water to your refrigerator is recommended, they often come with flexible lines. These clear, plastic lines are easier to install initially but are not as durable and prone to leak. When my plastic water line sprung a leak, and my plumber couldn’t come out for a week, I tried Flex Seal tape per my neighbor’s recommendation. Skeptical, I tightly wrapped the tape over the leak, making sure to extend it several inches past the leak in each direction. The patch held for the month it took my plumber to actually show up.

Repair Rubber Car Mats

In this video by @nicashel, they share a creative use of Flex Seal Liquid to repair a torn rubber car mat. First, cut away any loose, damaged areas, then clean both sides of the mat and let them dry. After applying duct tape to the underside of the mat to contain the liquid, spray a layer of Flex Seal Spray. After letting that dry, apply two layers of Flex Seal Liquid with a small brush. Wait two days for the product to cure for a solid repair.

Repair and Protect Work Gloves and Tools

Worn work gloves no longer need replacing with Flex Seal Liquid’s help. First, set up a place to hang your glove to dry and catch any liquid that drips off. Then, take your glove and dip the worn fingertip into a can of Flex Seal Liquid. While you’re at it, treat the remaining fingertips, then hang the glove to dry. The product should take 24 to 48 hours to cure. Use a similar method to coat hand tools for a rubberized grip.

Temporarily Patch a Leaky Roof

While Flex Seal is not recommended as a permanent fix for a leaky roof, it is more than capable of a temporary repair. While waiting for the roofers to come, try using Flex Seal to keep out rainwater. Many TikTok videos show various roof repairs using Flex Seal Tape, Paste, Liquid and Glue. One video by @snydermantrading demonstrates how to use Flex Liquid to fashion a temporary patch around a leaking plumbing roof vent. Apply layers of Flex Liquid to the leak and surrounding area with a brush, then let dry.

Is Flex Seal safe to use around the house?

“Yes! When used as directed, Flex Seal products are safe for both indoor and outdoor use,” Swift says. However, there are some limitations, and you should always refer to product labels for detailed application and safety instructions.

Flex Seal has not been tested to be safe for use around animals, so don’t use it to fix leaky fish tanks, seal bird baths or repair a cracked pet water dish. It has also not been determined to be safe around food or potable water sources, so don’t use Flex Seal on cutting boards, countertops, dishware or water dispensers.

Flex Seal Flood Protection spray does produce flammable fumes, so it must be used in a well-ventilated area. “If you’re using it indoors, make sure to open windows and doors for proper ventilation. Keep spray and vapors away from heat, sparks and open flames,” Swift says.

How long does it take Flex Seal to cure?

“Cure times vary between each of our products,” Swift says. “Typically, our liquids, sprays and glues take 24 to 48 hours to fully cure while our tapes are ready to use immediately with no cure time needed.” Flex Seal Flood Protection products can be effective in as little as two hours despite having a longer cure time.

How do you get Flex Seal off your skin?

The better option is to prevent getting Flex Seal on your skin in the first place by wearing gloves, protective eyewear and clothing during use. However, if you do get Flex Seal on your skin, the company recommends wiping it off immediately with a dry paper towel. “If that doesn’t work, use pumice soap to wash it off, or try baby oil or cooking oil to help remove it,” Swift says.
